Q. Does it cost money to join Happy Science?

When joining, we ask for a donation of approximately 1,000 yen as a gesture of gratitude for Shokufuku (offering) open_in_new. Shokufuku is a noble act of offering a part of one's wealth for the construction of a utopia, and it is also a practice to cut off attachments. Additionally, we have a "Shokufuku no Kai" that allows you to donate starting from 1,000 yen each month after joining.

"Joining" and "Three Refuges Vow"

To become a member of Happy Science, there are two stages: the initial stage of "joining" and the subsequent "Three Refuges Vow (Sankiseigan)". The form of faith in Happy Science is called "Sanpōkie" which means,

● "Buddha Treasure": The present Buddha, the only El Cantare, who teaches the law, Master Ryuho Okawa

● "Law Treasure": The teachings of Master Ryuho Okawa, who is El Cantare

● "Sangha Treasure": A group that properly upholds the law of El Cantare

This means to "take refuge in the three treasures (Sanpō)".

Those who wish to take the Three Refuges Vow can receive the ceremony at a branch or temple of Happy Science. If you wish to take the Three Refuges Vow, please contact your nearest branch or temple. The offering for the Three Refuges ceremony is approximately 8,000 yen.

As a preliminary stage before taking the vow of refuge in the three treasures, Happy Science has a membership system. When joining, you will make a pledge to "believe in El Cantare." You can receive the membership ceremony at a branch or temple, or apply for membership online at Happy Science open_in_new. The offering at the time of joining is approximately 1,000 yen.

About Shokufuku (offering)

In Happy Science, offerings (fuse) are referred to as "Shokufuku" likening it to "planting trees." Even if the person who planted the saplings cannot benefit from them, the trees they planted will grow into a green mountain and eventually become timber for houses and other things. Tree planting is done with consideration for the future, thinking about a hundred years ahead. The heartfelt Shokufuku received from everyone is used carefully for establishing branches and temples around the world, publishing scriptures for truth enlightenment, producing films, and addressing numerous social issues such as global poverty, natural disasters, bullying solutions, and suicide prevention.

Moreover, there is no transactional nature in the evangelistic activities conducted by religions. When Happy Science receives Shokufuku from its member believers, it is not in exchange for goods or labor. Even if there are acts such as reading sutras or giving sermons, those are merely opportunities and not the basis for offering Shokufuku.

When you make a Shokufuku, there is joy in having offered something important for the wishes of deities, without seeking a return, which is not based on worldly values. Shokufuku is also a practice to let go of attachments. Shokufuku done with a sincere heart becomes an offering that reaches the deities.

Happy Science does not have a "membership fee," but we recommend the "Shokufuku no Kai" as an opportunity for offerings (fuse) after joining, starting from 1,000 yen each month.
